Abstract

The present invention relates generally to transgenic plants which exhibit prolonged post-harvest life properties. More particularly, the present invention is directed to transgenic carnation plants modified to reduce expression of one or more enzymes associated with the ethylene biosynthetic pathway. Flowers of such carnation plants do not produce ethylene, or produce ethylene in reduced amounts, and are, therefore, capable of surviving longer post-harvest than flowers of non-genetically modified, naturally-occuring carnation plants.
L'invention concerne généralement des plantes transgéniques présentant des caractéristiques de vie prolongée après leur récolte. Plus particulièrement, l'invention concerne des ÷illets transgéniques modifiés afin de limiter l'expression d'une ou plusieurs enzymes associées à la voie de biosynthèse de l'éthylène. Les fleurs de ces ÷illets ne produisent pas d'éthylène, ou produisent de l'éthylène en quantité limitée et sont, de ce fait, capables de survivre plus longtemps après la récolte que les fleurs d'÷illets naturels, non modifiés génétiquement.
